About Thomas

I am a client-centered clinician. At the heart of client-centered practice is the emphasis on quickly building a strong, empathic relationship based on trust and acceptance, where clients feel the freedom to discuss whatever is important to them in each session. I have been trained in a variety of different therapeutic approaches, which allows me to remain flexible in adapting to the unique needs of my clients as they arise. These techniques include:
Client-centered therapy, Existential Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy,  Jungian Psychodynamics, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (C.B.T.), and Trauma focused C.B.T.

Specialty

Despite my experiences working with a wide variety of individuals with varying mental health concerns, I have found that I am particularly skilled with working with certain populations.  I found particular success when working with troubled teenagers and young adults, especially those who have found it difficult to trust or open up with others. I also am well suited to help clients who are wishing to live more authentically or develop their sense of spirituality. Lastly, I have expertise in helping those who have had exceptional spiritual experiences, whether positive or negative, learn how to understand and adapt to these experiences.

Education and Experience

  • Licensed Psychologist in the states of North Carolina and Colorado

  • Clinical Doctorate In Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology

  • Completed training at The Carl Rogers Institute for Client-Centered Therapy.

  • B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy, graduated from Valparaiso University's Christ College Honors Program.

My post doctoral training was completed at AspenPointe, a local community mental health center, where I gained broad experience working with teens, adults, couples, and families struggling with a vide variety of mental health concerns. I also led a spirituality group and substance abuse groups for adults as well as created and led a substance abuse treatment program for teens.
